Butt Weld Elbows

Butt weld elbows for direction changes in pressure piping, process lines and pipeline systems.

Product Overview

Elbow supply for pressure piping direction changes

Himount supplies butt weld elbows for carbon steel, low-temperature carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless pressure piping projects. RFQs are reviewed by standard, material grade, NPS, schedule or wall thickness, angle, radius, seamless or welded route, bevel, heat treatment, coating, inspection scope, packing and destination.

Key Specifications

Product forms45 degree elbows, 90 degree elbows, 180 degree returns, long radius elbows, short radius elbows, reducing elbows and special radius elbows by drawing.
Primary standardsASME B16.9, MSS SP-75, EN 10253, JIS, GB and project piping specifications for factory-made butt-welding fittings.
Common materialsASTM A234 WPB/WPC/WP11/WP22/WP91, ASTM A420 WPL6/WPL3, ASTM A403 WP304/WP304L/WP316/WP316L and ASTM A860 WPHY grades.
Size and wallNPS and outside diameter follow the mating pipe. Wall is normally ordered by schedule, standard weight, extra strong, double extra strong or exact wall thickness.
Manufacturing routeSeamless hot formed, welded route, induction or mandrel formed by size and wall; heat treatment, beveling, shot blasting, coating and marking according to specification.
Inspection and testsDimensional inspection, visual inspection, material traceability, PMI for alloy or stainless items, hardness, NDT, hydrostatic test when specified, MTC and packing inspection.
Order detailsConfirm standard edition, grade, NPS, schedule or wall, elbow angle, LR/SR, seamless or welded route, end bevel, coating, marking, inspection plan, quantity and destination.

Typical Applications

Where butt weld elbows are specified

Process pipingRefinery, chemical, petrochemical, power and plant piping systems where direction changes require welded pressure-boundary fittings.
Pipeline and energy projectsLine pipe tie-ins, compressor stations, terminal piping and high-strength project fittings where MSS SP-75 or WPHY grades may be required.
Low temperature and stainless serviceLow-temperature piping, LNG support systems, water treatment, food, chemical or corrosion-control systems using A420, A403 or project-specified grades.
Radius and angle note

Elbow price and fit-up depend on angle, LR/SR radius and exact wall. A 90 degree LR elbow, 45 degree LR elbow and short radius elbow are not interchangeable unless the piping drawing allows it.

Material traceability note

Equivalent material names should be checked by ASTM grade, heat treatment, impact requirement, PMI need, MTC traceability and project specification before substitution.

Buyer FAQ

Questions to settle before quotation

What information is needed for a butt weld elbow RFQ?

Confirm standard, material grade, nominal pipe size, schedule or wall thickness, elbow angle, LR or SR radius, seamless or welded route, end bevel, heat treatment, coating, inspection level, quantity and destination.

Which standards are common for butt weld elbows?

Common references include ASME B16.9 for factory-made wrought buttwelding fittings, MSS SP-75 for high-strength line pipe fittings, EN 10253 for European butt-welding fittings and project specifications.

How are LR and SR elbows different?

Long radius elbows normally use a center-to-end radius of 1.5D, while short radius elbows normally use 1D. Selection depends on piping layout, pressure drop, space and project specification.

Can elbows be supplied coated or galvanized?

Black paint, anti-rust oil, bare, galvanized, epoxy, FBE or project coating can be arranged when grade, surface preparation, coating thickness, packing and inspection requirements are confirmed.
