Run and branch note

A reducing tee must be quoted by run size and branch size, not by one nominal size only. Wall schedules may also differ between run and branch in project drawings.

Branch fitting note

Butt weld tees are different from branch outlet fittings such as weldolets or socket/threaded tees. Confirm the drawing, end type and welding design before substitution.

Questions to settle before quotation

What information is needed for a butt weld tee RFQ?

Confirm standard, material grade, run size, branch size, schedule or wall thickness, equal or reducing type, seamless or welded route, end bevel, heat treatment, coating, inspection level, quantity and destination.

What is the difference between equal tee and reducing tee?

An equal tee has the same run and branch size. A reducing tee has a smaller branch or different branch wall requirement, so run size, branch size and schedules must be written clearly in the RFQ.

Which standards are common for butt weld tees?

Common references include ASME B16.9 for factory-made wrought buttwelding fittings, MSS SP-75 for high-strength line pipe fittings, EN 10253 for European butt-welding fittings and project specifications.

Can tees be supplied with coating and PMI?

Black paint, anti-rust oil, galvanized, epoxy, FBE, PMI and project inspection can be arranged when grade, surface preparation, coating thickness, marking, inspection records and packing are confirmed.
